There are also edge cases where buying the premium part doesn't make sense. If you're selling a car in a month and just need it to pass inspection, a budget rotor is a defensible choice. If the vehicle has been in an accident and might be totaled, the TCO calculation changes completely.
And to be clear, Zimmermann isn't the only quality rotor manufacturer. ATE, Brembo, and TRW all make excellent products. The lesson from eight years of data isn't Zimmermann or nothing. It's that the cheapest option in the catalog is rarely the cheapest option in the real world.
